Red Feather Butter

Pretty good butter if you haven't tried it. Supposed to have an indefinite shelf life.

http://www.mredepot.com/catalog/12%20Cans.JPG

Case of 24 cans is normally about 92 bucks, is 72 bucks with this discount code thru Dec 31st.

They also have one can sample, 6 can case, and 12 can case.

http://mredepot.com

Use the promotion code FLUWIKIE You enter it on the last page of checkout, and it will recalculate your discounted amount.....then click "order" to finish up.

I've ordered from these folks before......no problems, good to deal with.

BTW, I believe the discount applies to anything they have on the site.

I'll second that, although I'm not sure I buy their "indefinite shelf life." I suspect it's more a matter of their just not claiming a particular shelf life. It sure beats the powdered butter and margarine! The Internet Grocer sells them, too, but that's a great sales price for the case.

I'll thank ya too, Andy.

Made the same order myself..1 case of butter, 1 case of cheese. It's a price I just couldn't pass up.

You can live on crackers for a while if you want, and probably be OK in the end. Those crackers are a lot better with a little cheese. In a SHTF situation, "comfort food" can be important. :eating:

Yep.....my thoughts too. Throw in a hot shower, and there isn't much you can't handle.

Oooooh...hot showers...good point. They are completely under-rated. I have a couple of those solar-showers that I use on hunting trips. Fill them and hang them in a tree all day. Depending on the amount of sun, they may not be "hot" in the evening, but they're not cold, either. It's amazing how much better you feel just getting cleaned up. That would be very important post-SHTF. Get cleaned up and you can sleep much better...at least I can. I can't sleep if I'm grubby. :bath:

Sorry to get off-topic, Andy. While you're here, have you ever ordered any of the "canned meat" products from MREdepot? Just wondering, I'm not familiar with any of them.

Re: Red Feather Butter

No, we pretty much can our own meats. In fact, we made a 'run' of chicken soup today and canned 35 pints of it today. I'm waiting on the canner to cool right now to take the rest out. We'll be doing a bunch of chili this Saturday, cleaning out the freezers for the next beef , which they are going to cut up for me on Sunday, believe it or not.....they are that far behind at the meat place I've been taking mine.

I did order a case of freeze dried pork chops from:

www.freezedryguy.com and they were pretty darn good.

Re: Red Feather Butter

I got a case of the cheese because we love cheese and it is kinda half way between velveeta and real cheese, but to have it on hand rocks.

In any melted cheese use it would likely be good. For instance mac n cheese and we like cheese melted in our black eyed peas. Or home made pizza or eggs with everything scrambled in! LOL We love those if we get hens again if times get really tough.

I'll order some of the butter for our grits and rice and freeze dried corn and potato flakes. Though not much like real mashed potatoes, we kind of like those potato flake kind and since they work in long storage that is cool.

Thanks, Andy. You put up so many good preps ideas. :ARMS1:

Re: Red Feather Butter

We do all of our own beef and hogs. Next beef will be early Feb. We did 5 hogs in early November. I only kept one.

My buddy has a fully-equipped stainless steel butcher shop at his farm. I have the scars on my hands to prove it. My wife says we shouldn't play with sharp things... . Anyway, it comes in handy, and keeps my three freezers full. Just wondered about the canned stuff as a backup in an extended power loss. Always thinking, trying to cover all of the bases.

We do some canning of soups and such. I like my wife's pot-pie (chicken or ham) canned. It seems to keep well, and is always a treat. There are 5 apple trees and 3 pear trees in the yard. We always have apple and pear sauce canned and frozen, canned slices of both, dried apples, dried pears, and anything else we can think of to do with them. I hate to waste anything, and it's always such a battle to get them before the deer and bears do.

While we're on the topic of preps, I found 1/2" x 75' solid braided rope at a local hardware store yesterday, marked down to half price. I bought 8 of them for $40! My wife says "Do we need that?". I don't know, but we have it now in case we ever do need it...

Re: Red Feather Butter

SB,

Do you can any of your beef or pork...or freeze it all ?

We used to freeze all ours....also have 3 freezers.....but I got to canning some of it some years back....mostly I like it in pre-made chili, stew, soup, etc, but I have canned it alone as well.

I got to canning it thinking that some day down the road I might not have electricity to run those freezers......but now I'm also working on a 2 kw solar system that I hope would run a couple of the freezers, a small refrigerator and a few lights indefinitely.....everything else electrical is merely convenience stuff we could do without in a real pinch.

I'm gonna start another thread on that......

Sounds like MRE Depot has made the decision to sell volume and keep the price down....if they can keep this up and keep up their good service, they have a winning combo !

Only other place I know of to buy this butter and cheese is Internet Grocer, and these prices are killing them......91.90 at IG.....72.64 at MRE Depot. ( 24 can case of butter)

http://www.internet-grocer.net/butter.htm

Soooo, ya'll enjoy !
